Driver attention – dealing with drowsiness and distraction

A continuous attention to driving is a must in order to drive in a safe way. But it is also known that humans are easily being distracted or drowsy. This research aims to contribute to traffic safety by promoting an attentive driver by technical means in the vehicle. The project will look for measurable observables of an attentive driver. Demonstrator vehicles will be equipped with sensors and countermeasures in order to bring the driver back to attentive driving. Testing and evaluation will take place preferably in real traffic in order to evaluate effectiveness and user acceptance. An industrial prospective work will be done in order to identify the steps needed for industrial production and market introduction.
