Since 2000, Volvo Car Corporation has been conducting two industrial PhD projects within the field of collision warning systems. This has resulted in two licentiate dissertations at Linköping University. The proposed project, SCA (Systems for Collision Avoidance) focuses on functions for collision avoidance via braking and steering. We would like to finance the completion of these projects within the framework of the IVSS sub-program ”Sensors and integral systems”. This will be done in cooperation with the IVSS financed project SEFS that will develop the theoretical sensor fusion algorithms, but not any appurtenant functions. Both sub-projects in SCA are associated with Volvo’s future product plan and have a large demonstrable potential for improving road safety, which is highly relevant to both Volvo and Sweden as forerunners in the use of safety enhancement functions.
